Recalibrate, always
A moved camera is an inaccurate camera.
A new windshield, a moved camera, and lane keeping working from the wrong reference.
Most cars built in the last decade run lane keeping and automatic emergency braking from a camera bonded behind the windshield. Replace the glass and that camera moves by millimetres, which is enough to put its reference out. The car gives no warning; the system simply becomes less accurate at exactly the moment it is needed.
So recalibration is not an upsell, it is the second half of the job, and a quote that omits it is not cheaper — it is incomplete. The honest version states before work whether it happens in house, goes to a third party, or needs a dealer.
The other thing Florida drivers should know is why they keep being offered gift cards for a free windshield. Those offers come attached to assigning insurance benefits to the shop, a practice that has produced mass litigation and inflated claims. A shop that offers no inducement and bills only for work you directed is declining a business model, not a courtesy.
A moved camera is an inaccurate camera.
It is a safety figure, in writing.
And no gift cards for a claim.
A free assessment, with repair offered before replacement.
